ATP Finals: Sinner Dominates Ruud to Set Up Final Clash with Fritz
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner delivered a tennis masterclass on Saturday, dismantling Casper Ruud 6-1, 6-2 to book his spot in the ATP Finals championship match against Taylor Fritz. The Italian star thrilled the roaring home crowd in Turin with an electric performance, extending his remarkable run of form by securing his 25th win in his past 26 matches.
Sinner, 23, wasted no time asserting his dominance, breaking Ruud early in both sets and maintaining unrelenting pressure with pinpoint accuracy and immense power. The Australian Open and US Open champion showcased his relentless intensity and precision, leaving Ruud unable to respond to his flat ball-striking.
“I felt like I returned well from the start, and when I got the break, I focused on maintaining my level,” Sinner said. “The crowd gave me great energy, and I’m thrilled to be in the final again.”
This marks Sinner’s second consecutive ATP Finals title match, making him the youngest to achieve this feat since Lleyton Hewitt in 2002. Standing in his way is Taylor Fritz, whom Sinner defeated in the round-robin stage earlier this week.
As Sinner eyes the title, he hopes to close his historic season with a crowning achievement in front of his home fans. “It would mean so much to win here,” he said.
