The Round of 16 at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open saw some thrilling battles, but Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime had an easier route to the quarterfinals. His opponent, Hamad Medjedovic of Serbia, was forced to withdraw, handing Auger-Aliassime a walkover victory.
While the 23-year-old Canadian didn’t get a chance to test his form on the court, this advancement gives him extra rest ahead of his next challenge. Auger-Aliassime will now focus on the quarterfinals, where he hopes to capitalize on his fresh legs and make a deep run in the tournament.
Elsewhere in the Round of 16, Andrey Rublev (5) powered past Portugal’s Nuno Borges with a 6-3, 6-4 victory, while Alex de Minaur (2) took down Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4, 6-4. Meanwhile, Jack Draper (8) cruised past Australia’s Christopher O’Connell in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
All eyes will be on Auger-Aliassime in the upcoming round as he looks to make his mark in Doha.
