Carlos Alcaraz just added another milestone to his already impressive career—reaching his first-ever indoor final. The 21-year-old Spaniard battled past Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in a thrilling three-set semifinal at the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam, winning 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-3.
It wasn’t an easy road for Alcaraz. He had previously reached three indoor semifinals but had never managed to break through to the final. However, this time, he dug deep, overcoming a shaky start and proving once again why he’s one of the most formidable players on tour.
A Comeback for the Ages
The match started with a rough patch for Alcaraz as Hurkacz raced to a 3-0 lead, even coming within a point of securing a double break. But Alcaraz wasn’t ready to fold. The four-time Grand Slam champion clawed his way back, winning five straight games to snatch the first set. His forehand was on fire, racking up an impressive 26 winners by the end of the match.
The second set was a rollercoaster. Both players had their chances, but a costly double fault by Alcaraz at 5-4 in the tiebreak allowed Hurkacz to level the match. However, Alcaraz responded with dominance in the decider, taking an early break and never looking back. He sealed his victory with a blistering forehand winner, his 39th of the match.
“I just fought for every ball, every point. I knew I would have my chances,” Alcaraz said after his victory. “His level was really high, so I’m happy I was able to push through.”
Showdown with De Minaur Awaits
Alcaraz’s next challenge is Australian Alex de Minaur, who cruised past Mattia Bellucci 6-1, 6-2 in the other semifinal. De Minaur has been in top form, winning all his matches in straight sets, but history favors Alcaraz—he leads their head-to-head 2-0.
The Rotterdam final will be their first meeting on an indoor hard court, setting the stage for an electrifying battle. Can Alcaraz capture his 17th career title? Or will De Minaur finally claim the Rotterdam crown after finishing runner-up last year? One thing is for sure—it’s going to be a match to remember.
