🎾 Zverev & Shelton Serve Up Wins, Power into Munich Quarterfinals

The top two seeds are on a mission in Munich! 🇩🇪 Alexander Zverev and 🇺🇸 Ben Shelton both cruised into the BMW Open 2025 quarterfinals, setting up the possibility of a blockbuster showdown later in the tournament.

World No. 3 Zverev looked sharp on home soil, defeating fellow German Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 6-2 in just 79 minutes. The two-time Munich champion (2017, 2018) broke Altmaier four times and never looked in danger as he reached his 99th career ATP quarterfinal.

Zverev, still hunting for his first title since the 2023 Paris Masters, will face either Tallon Griekspoor or Yannick Hanfmann next.

Meanwhile, No. 2 seed Ben Shelton continues to ride high after a dramatic comeback win on Tuesday. This time, he made it look easy—beating Botic van de Zandschulp 7-6(1), 6-3. Shelton blasted his way to victory by winning 83% of his first-serve points and credited Munich’s altitude for boosting his serve.

“I love playing in Germany and especially in Munich,” Shelton told the crowd. “There’s still a lot to do.”

The 22-year-old American is now into his third quarterfinal of the season and will next face Luciano Darderi, who rallied to defeat Miomir Kecmanovic.

With Zverev and Shelton showing top form, fans can’t help but hope for a fiery finals clash between the top seeds. Stay tuned to TennisNowCanada.com for full Munich Open coverage!
