The Argentina Open semifinals delivered thrilling action as young Brazilian talent João Fonseca stunned Serbia’s Laslo Djere in a hard-fought battle, while home favorite Francisco Cerúndolo dominated Pedro Martínez to book his spot in the final.
Fonseca, just 17 years old, showed incredible composure to edge out Djere in a three-set showdown. After taking the first set in a tiebreak, the Brazilian lost the second but bounced back strongly to claim the decider 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-1.
In the other semifinal, Argentina’s top player Cerúndolo gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about with a convincing 6-2, 6-4 victory over Spain’s Pedro Martínez. Cerúndolo’s strong baseline play and aggressive shot-making proved too much for his opponent.
With the final set, Fonseca will aim for his first ATP title, while Cerúndolo looks to lift the trophy on home soil.
