Peter Burwash (1945–2022) was a former Canadian tennis player and an influential coach who left an enduring legacy on the sport. After a playing career that included winning the Canadian National Championships and representing Canada in the Davis Cup, Burwash transitioned into coaching and founded Peter Burwash International (PBI) in 1975. His company became a global leader in tennis management, operating across 134 countries and setting new standards for coaching and hospitality in the sport.
Burwash was a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Master Professional, recognized for coaching elite players such as Venus and Serena Williams, Greg Rusedski, and Sébastien Lareau, who won gold at the 2000 Olympics. He also worked extensively with Davis Cup and Fed Cup teams, contributing to the development of both players and coaches worldwide.
Beyond coaching, Burwash was an entrepreneur, author, and motivational speaker. His book Tennis for Life became a bestseller, and he shared his insights through columns, commentary, and workshops. He dedicated much of his life to philanthropy, supporting education programs for underprivileged children in India.
Although Burwash passed away in 2022, his legacy lives on through PBI and the numerous players and coaches he mentored throughout his career.
