Novak Djokovic is just one victory away from an extraordinary milestone. The 24-time Grand Slam champion stormed past Grigor Dimitrov in the Miami Open semifinals on Friday, securing a commanding 6-2, 6-3 win. With this triumph, Djokovic advances to his 142nd ATP singles final, bringing him closer to a monumental 100th career title.
Djokovic in Control, Dimitrov Struggles
Dimitrov, who showed immense grit in his previous quarterfinal match against Francisco Cerúndolo, faced a tough challenge against an in-form Djokovic. Despite breaking the Serbian’s serve in the first game, Dimitrov’s momentum quickly faded. Battling fatigue and a lingering physical strain from his last match, the Bulgarian couldn’t match Djokovic’s relentless pace.
Adding to the drama, a disruptive heckler in the stands momentarily halted play. However, once the situation was resolved, Djokovic resumed his dominance, winning seven consecutive games to seize control of the match.
Serving Up Perfection
Djokovic’s serve was the highlight of the day. At one point, he landed an astonishing 87% of his first serves, going 40 minutes without missing a single one. Tennis Channel’s Jim Courier even speculated whether this might have been Djokovic’s finest serving performance.
“I surprised myself, pleasantly,” Djokovic said in his post-match interview. “In these tricky, windy conditions, I managed to stay consistent and find my rhythm.”
A Chance to Join Tennis Legends
If Djokovic clinches the title on Sunday, he will become only the third player in ATP history to win 100 singles titles, joining tennis icons Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103).
His final challenge will come against 19-year-old Czech sensation Jakub Mensik, who edged past Taylor Fritz in a dramatic three-set tiebreaker. Mensik, ranked 54th in the world, is relishing the opportunity to face his idol once again. The two met in Shanghai last year, where Djokovic emerged victorious in a thrilling match.
“It’s incredible to play Novak again,” Mensik said. “He’s the reason I picked up a tennis racket.”
Star-Studded Support
The semifinal also saw some familiar faces in the stands. Soccer legend Lionel Messi and tennis great Venus Williams were among the spectators at Hard Rock Stadium, adding to the electric atmosphere.

Djokovic was especially honored by Messi’s presence, referring to him as “King Leo.” The two shared a special moment in the locker room, exchanging gifts and mutual admiration.
What’s Next?
The stage is set for an epic final. Will Djokovic secure his 100th career title and further cement his legacy? Or will Mensik pull off a historic upset?
