Elise Mertens put on a dominant display at the Singapore Tennis Open, securing her ninth career WTA singles title with a commanding 6-1, 6-4 victory over American Ann Li in the final. The Belgian, seeded No. 2, wrapped up the match in 1 hour and 22 minutes, marking a triumphant return for Singapore on the WTA Tour calendar.
Mertens, a former Top 15 player, had not won a singles title since Monastir in October 2023. With this win, she continues her strong start to the 2025 season, having already reached the final at the Hobart International. She now boasts a 10-2 record for the year, her best season start since 2021.
The final saw Mertens dominate the first set, dropping just two points on serve. Li, ranked 85th, fought back in the second set, breaking Mertens early and staying competitive until 5-4. However, Mertens held her nerve, sealing the win with a 23-shot rally that ended in Li’s netted shot.
In doubles action, Desirae Krawczyk and Giuliana Olmos clinched the title, defeating Wang Xinyu and Zheng Saisai 7-5, 6-0.
With this victory, Mertens edges closer to reentering the WTA Top 30, proving she’s still a force to be reckoned with.
