Eastbourne Action Heats Up: Evans and Fonseca Advance as Sonego and Fokina Dominate First Round

The Lexus Eastbourne Open 2025 kicked off with electrifying matches on Centre Court and across the grounds, as Round of 32 action in the men’s singles saw some major upsets, powerful comebacks, and confident straight-set wins.

Great Britain’s Dan Evans gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about as he staged a spirited comeback against Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanović. After dropping the first set 3-6, Evans found his rhythm and rallied to take the next two sets 6-4, 6-4 in an impressive turnaround.

Brazilian teen sensation João Fonseca continued his rise with a gritty three-set win over Belgium’s Zizou Bergs. After narrowly losing the first-set tiebreak 6(8)-7, Fonseca roared back with a dominant 6-0, 6-3 finish to seal his place in the Round of 16.

Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego looked sharp on Court 1, overpowering Hungarian player Fábián Marozsán in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. In another commanding performance, Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina showcased his grass-court prowess by easing past Chun-Hsin Tseng of Taiwan, 7-6(6), 6-2.

Over on Court 2, Italy’s Mattia Bellucci stunned Frenchman Quentin Halys with a clinical 6-4, 6-2 victory, advancing in style.
