Born on April 15, 1999, in Tel Aviv, Israel, Shapovalov moved to Canada at a young age and rose to prominence as a teenager. He burst onto the scene in 2017, reaching the semifinals of the Canadian Open by defeating Rafael Nadal and Juan Martín del Potro.
