Alcaraz Sends Wimbledon Warning After Gritty Queen’s Club Victory Over Lehecka
Carlos Alcaraz is firing on all cylinders ahead of Wimbledon. The 22-year-old Spaniard captured his second Queen’s Club title and fifth tour-level trophy of 2025 with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-2 win over Czech rising star Jiri Lehecka on Sunday. With this victory, Alcaraz extended his career-best winning streak to 18 matches, adding yet another layer of dominance to an already sensational season that includes titles in Roland Garros, Rome, Monte-Carlo, and now Queen’s.
Despite coming into the grass-court tournament with just two days of preparation following his French Open triumph, Alcaraz defied expectations. “I came here with no pressure—just wanted to adjust to grass,” he admitted. “To lift the trophy again, it feels incredible. I’m proud of how I adapted.”
Lehecka, playing in his first grass-court final, pushed Alcaraz to the limit, even snatching the second set in a tiebreak. But the Spaniard stepped up in the decider, showing composure and flair, including a jaw-dropping lob that had the London crowd on its feet. He dropped just two points on serve in the final set and wrapped up the title in just over two hours.
Now a 21-time ATP Tour champion, Alcaraz becomes only the fifth active male player to win four or more titles on grass, joining the elite company of Novak Djokovic, Matteo Berrettini, Taylor Fritz, and Nicolas Mahut. More impressively, he is the first player since Rafael Nadal in 2008 to win both Roland Garros and Queen’s in the same year.
Off the court, Alcaraz credited mental recovery and time with friends and family as key to his resurgence after a frustrating loss in Miami earlier this year. “I needed to disconnect, reset, and remember what I love about tennis,” he reflected. “Now I’ve got the joy back.”
With Wimbledon just a week away, the two-time defending champion looks more dangerous than ever. And while Ibiza will have to wait, London may once again become the playground of tennis’ newest grass king.
