Canadian Charge at Mallorca: Auger-Aliassime and Diallo Power Into Round of 16

Canadian tennis fans had plenty to cheer about at the Mallorca Championships 2025, as both Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriel Diallo secured impressive victories in the men’s singles draw. On the sunlit courts of Mallorca, Spain, Round of 32 and Round of 16 matches offered exciting matchups and strong performances from rising and seasoned stars alike.

Felix Auger-Aliassime looked sharp and focused in his Round of 16 battle against France’s Arthur Rinderknech. The Canadian No. 1 controlled the tempo with his powerful baseline game and precise serving, winning in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 to book his place in the quarterfinals. His movement on grass has improved significantly this season, and Mallorca may just be the momentum boost he needs ahead of Wimbledon.

Joining him in the last 8 is fellow Canadian Gabriel Diallo, who continues to turn heads with his confident court presence. Diallo defeated Serbia’s Laslo Djere in a high-quality encounter, coming through 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. The 22-year-old showcased resilience and big-point maturity, particularly in the final set, where he broke at the right moments to close out the match. Diallo’s performance reflects his rising stature on the ATP tour.

Elsewhere on Center Court, Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut delighted home fans with a gritty 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 comeback win over Argentina’s Tomas Etcheverry, while Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor ousted American Ethan Quinn 7-5, 6-4 to reach the next round. On the Grandstand, Aussie veteran Bernard Tomic staged a comeback against Rinky Hijikata, winning 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, and Serbia’s Hamad Medjedovic edged past Roman Safiullin in a three-set battle, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(4).

Over on Court 1, Brandon Holt of the USA pulled off a tight win over France’s Benjamin Bonzi, taking it 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a match filled with momentum swings.

As the tournament heats up, all eyes will be on Auger-Aliassime and Diallo as they aim for a deep run in Mallorca and gather momentum heading into the grass-court Grand Slam at Wimbledon.
