Defending champions Canada were eliminated from the Billie Jean King Cup Finals after a stunning 2-0 loss to Great Britain in Malaga. The Brits, led by Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter, delivered a flawless performance to book their spot in the semi-finals.
Raducanu’s Power Shines
British No. 2 Emma Raducanu set the tone early against Canada’s Rebecca Marino, breaking serve in the first game and never looking back. The former US Open champion played with precision and aggression, dominating Marino with a blend of power and accuracy. Raducanu clinched the first set in just 28 minutes, capitalizing on Marino’s 16 unforced errors.
Marino, who entered the tournament fresh off a WTA title in Midland, struggled to find her rhythm, while Raducanu thrived under pressure, saving seven break points in a gritty second set to seal the victory.
Boulter Overwhelms Fernandez
Katie Boulter followed up Raducanu’s success with a commanding win over Canadian star Leylah Fernandez. Despite flashes of brilliance, Fernandez’s inconsistent serve proved costly. Boulter pounced on five double faults and broke Fernandez three times in the opening set.
The British No. 1 maintained her momentum in the second set, overwhelming Fernandez with relentless groundstrokes to secure the win.
Canada’s Title Defense Ends Early
Despite their talent, Canada couldn’t replicate last year’s success, falling short in key moments. Great Britain, on the other hand, advances with confidence, having yet to drop a set in the competition.
