British Stars Shine at Lexus Eastbourne Open: Norrie Falls, Fearnley and Harris Impress in Opening Round

The Lexus Eastbourne Open 2025 kicked off with some electrifying Round of 32 men’s singles matches that had the home crowd buzzing. Local favourite Billy Harris delivered a commanding performance on Centre Court, defeating fellow Brit Cameron Norrie in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. In another all-British clash, Jacob Fearnley cruised past Italy’s Flavio Cobolli 6-2, 6-2, showcasing his growing confidence on grass courts.

Gabriel Diallo may have been missing from this round, but rising British names like George Loffhagen gave fans something to cheer for. Loffhagen put up a gritty fight against the towering American Reilly Opelka, taking the match to three tight sets before falling 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-7(1). Meanwhile, Portugal’s Nuno Borges staged a comeback win over Britain’s Jack Pinnington Jones, turning the tide 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Over on Court 2, American Jenson Brooksby edged out Argentina’s Facundo Comesana 7-6(6), 6-4 in a tense encounter. On Court 12, it was an all-Aussie affair as James Duckworth overcame Aleksandar Vukic in a three-set thriller, 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-1. Italy’s Luciano Darderi fell to the consistent American Marcos Giron, who sealed the match 6-4, 7-5.
