Bautista Agut Rolls, Shelton Stunned: Mallorca Championships Round of 16 Delivers Big Surprises

The Mallorca Championships 2025 men’s Round of 16 brought fiery clashes and unexpected outcomes on the scenic grass courts of Spain. Under the sun-soaked skies of Center Court, Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista Agut thrilled the home crowd with a confident 6-3, 6-3 win over Australia’s Bernard Tomic. Bautista Agut, known for his clean hitting and calm demeanor, never allowed Tomic to settle into rhythm and moved smoothly into the quarterfinals.

In one of the day’s surprises, young American Learner Tien pulled off a commanding upset against fellow countryman and rising star Ben Shelton, winning 6-4, 7-6(2). Tien’s composed baseline play and sharp returns outmatched Shelton’s trademark power game. This victory marks a significant milestone for Tien on the ATP Tour.

Earlier on Center Court, Frenchman Corentin Moutet showcased his flair and fighting spirit in a straight-sets but tightly contested win over Daniel Altmaier of Germany. Moutet edged both sets in tiebreaks, 7-6(3), 7-6(3), in a match full of long rallies and bold shot-making from both players.

On the Grandstand Court, American Alex Michelsen stayed steady to defeat compatriot Brandon Holt 6-4, 6-4. Michelsen’s aggressive first serves and net approaches paid off well on the quick surface.
