Thriller in Doha: Rublev and Auger-Aliassime Secure Semifinal Spots at Qatar Open

The quarterfinal stage at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open delivered high drama as Andrey Rublev and Félix Auger-Aliassime emerged victorious, booking their spots in the semifinals.

Rublev Battles Past de Minaur in a Three-Set Epic Fifth seed Andrey Rublev had to dig deep to overcome Australia’s Alex de Minaur in a rollercoaster quarterfinal clash. The Russian started strong, dominating the first set 6-1. However, de Minaur responded in style, claiming the second set 6-3 and forcing a decider. The final set saw both players push their limits, but Rublev held his nerve in a tense tiebreak to clinch the match 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(8).

De Minaur, the tournament’s second seed, was forced to retire after pushing himself to the brink in an intense battle, paving the way for Rublev’s march into the semifinals.

Auger-Aliassime Advances as Medvedev Retires In another major upset, Canadian star Félix Auger-Aliassime put on a masterclass to defeat fourth-seeded Daniil Medvedev. The 23-year-old was in complete control early on, taking the first set 6-3. However, Medvedev struggled with physical discomfort and was unable to continue, ultimately retiring from the match, handing Auger-Aliassime a spot in the semifinals.

Auger-Aliassime’s aggressive play and consistency had kept Medvedev on the back foot before the Russian’s unfortunate exit. With this victory, he advances to the semifinals, where he will look to continue his strong run in Doha.
