“Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini Propel Italy to Davis Cup Semifinals”

Italy’s Davis Cup journey remains alive, thanks to the stellar performances of Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini. In a thrilling quarterfinal against Argentina, the Italian duo clinched a decisive doubles victory, securing their spot in the semifinals with a 2-1 comeback win.

The tie began with a setback as Argentina’s Francisco Cerúndolo defeated Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-1 on the fast indoor court in Málaga, Spain. But Italy’s top-ranked player, Jannik Sinner, stepped up to turn the tide. Sinner dominated Sebastián Báez in singles, winning 6-2, 6-1, and carried that momentum into doubles.

Teaming with 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini, Sinner powered past Andres Molteni and Maximo Gonzalez 6-4, 7-5. Their precise serving, winning 90% of first-serve points, and crucial break at 5-5 in the second set electrified Italian fans and sealed the victory.

“It was a must-win match,” Sinner said, reflecting on the quick adjustment required after arriving late from his triumph at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. Despite the challenging conditions, Sinner extended his remarkable streak to 27 wins in his last 28 matches.

Italy now advances to face Australia in the semifinals on Saturday, a rematch of last year’s Davis Cup final. With Sinner and Berrettini firing on all cylinders, Italy aims to defend their Davis Cup title and continue their remarkable run in this storied competition.
