Félix Auger-Aliassime is through to the last-16 at the Cincinnati Open after a dramatic encounter with France’s Arthur Rinderknech ended prematurely. The Canadian took the first set in a tense tiebreak 7-6(4) and led 4-2 in the second when Rinderknech, struggling with intense heat and humidity, was forced to retire.
Rinderknech had collapsed early in the second set and received on-court treatment. Although he attempted to continue, the physical toll was evident, and he was unable to finish the match.
Auger-Aliassime dominated on serve, firing seven aces and winning nearly 90% of his first-serve points. He faced no breaks and capitalized on two of his eleven break-point chances to keep control of the match.
With this win, Auger-Aliassime advances to the next round, looking to carry his momentum forward in the challenging Cincinnati conditions.
