Machac’s Magic in Acapulco: Czech Star Wins First ATP Title & Breaks into Top 20!

Tomas Machac has made history! The 23-year-old Czech claimed his first-ever ATP title in spectacular fashion, defeating Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7-6(6), 6-2 in the Acapulco final on Saturday night.

Ranked No. 25 before the tournament, Machac was the highest-ranked player yet to win an ATP title. But he shed that label with a dominant performance, and his victory means he will break into the Top 20 for the first time when the new rankings are released on Monday. He’ll become the first Czech man in the Top 20 since Tomas Berdych in 2018.

The final was a gripping battle. Davidovich Fokina had a set point in the first-set tiebreak, but Machac held his nerve to take the set. From there, the Czech took complete control, winning five straight games in the second set to seal victory in just under 100 minutes.

Though Davidovich Fokina fell short, it was a strong tournament for him. The Spaniard will re-enter the Top 40 after impressive wins over Frances Tiafoe and Denis Shapovalov.

With his first title in the bag, Machac is a name to watch on the ATP Tour!
