Stefanos Tsitsipas Clinches First ATP 500 Title with Dubai Triumph, Returns to Top 10

Stefanos Tsitsipas Clinches First ATP 500 Title with Dubai Triumph, Returns to Top 10

After 11 heartbreaks in ATP 500 finals, Stefanos Tsitsipas finally broke the curse, securing his first ATP 500 title at the Dubai Tennis Championships. The Greek star delivered a commanding 6-3, 6-3 victory over Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, marking a significant milestone in his career.

Tsitsipas Ends ATP 500 Drought in Style

Despite being a former ATP Finals champion and a three-time Masters 1000 winner, the ATP 500 title had remained elusive for Tsitsipas—until now. His 12th final at this level proved to be the charm, as he outclassed Auger-Aliassime with an aggressive baseline game and near-flawless serving.

The victory also means a return to the ATP Top 10, as Tsitsipas is set to rise from No. 11 to No. 9 when the latest rankings update on Monday.

How Tsitsipas Took Control

Tsitsipas faced early pressure in the opening set, fending off two break points at 1-2. But once he escaped that hurdle, he never looked back. A crucial break at 4-3 shifted the momentum in his favor, and he closed out the first set in dominant fashion.

In the second set, both players held serve for the first seven games before Tsitsipas struck again, breaking for a 5-3 lead. He then sealed the match in emphatic style, serving it out at love with a powerful ace up the T.

A key difference in the match? Break points. While Tsitsipas converted 3 of 6 chances, Auger-Aliassime failed to capitalize on any of his seven opportunities.

Felix Auger-Aliassime Falls Short but Climbs Back to Top 20

Despite the loss, Auger-Aliassime had a strong week in Dubai. The former World No. 6 will see his ranking improve from No. 21 to No. 18, as he continues his push to reclaim a spot among the sport’s elite.

“I had a great week and a lot of fun,” Auger-Aliassime said post-match. “Tonight wasn’t meant to be for me, but congrats to Stefanos and his team.”

Tsitsipas Eyes Bigger Goals

Now that he has finally checked the ATP 500 title off his list, Tsitsipas has only one goal left: a Grand Slam. The Greek has come close before, reaching the finals at Roland Garros 2021 and the Australian Open 2023, but falling short both times.

As the 26-year-old regains his confidence and Top 10 status, the tennis world will be watching to see if he can take the next step and capture that elusive major title.
